Randomness, Natural Selection and Resilience

Continuing from The unsuperable rule of chaos and the rebellion that is life

At some point, life found that to become more resilient, it must embrace randomness.

When reproducing/replicating, how to create more opportunities for your progeny? One answer is to stir some Random Salt into the mixture. Doing so is risky - you need the right amount of randomness introduced - that the basic structure of the begetters is maintained plus some change change. The result should be like a normal distribution which doesnt break anything on average. If the change is in the direction which is beneficial for the organism, the distribution of the species will shift towards that. With so many dimensions on which change can happen, something has got to work. Natural Selection ensures that any organism which doesnt perform upto standards is not allowed to flourish and its code is eventually lost. We are all survivors of this long.

Starting from basic functions, thanks to randomness and Natural Selection, life has been able to create more and more complex systems - with the same aim. How to harness and store energy - to succeed in reproduction and build resilience(?)
