Humans have existed in their current form for around 100,000 years. In this time, we have domesticated plants and animals and becomes more settled - building houses, and creating a concept of ownership. And life has been more or less comfortable. We havn't had to struggle against any other species in a big way. All the excess energy we have had as a species has been used to imprint ourselves in this world, to make ourselves more comfortable, to create structures with which to manage ourselves.
