Henry George was an economist who was very admired and wrote a famous book "Progress and Poverty".
He believed that people should own what they produce but anything derived from the land itself should be enjoyed by all (Common Ownership).
His proposed land Tax was a single-tax on land which would try to improve Allocation Efficiency and drive growth. However, his proposal ignored maintenance/quality of land and what was built on top and its effects on its surroundings. It was an administrative nightmare and wasnt implemented as is anywhere. It was hugely influential though.
