Algorithms create social reality
Algorithms are now is use in systems across the world and billions of people interact with algorithms.
- Algorithms run by inviolatable rules, like the Laws of Nature
- These rules define social reality for its users
- Algorithms can reinforce gender/race/caste biases.
- If done thoughtlessly, it can cause real harm to individuals.
- Example: A binary choice for a gender entry in a form enforces the same data structure in society.
- Vigilance is needed to keep a check on what rules algorithms enforce and change them alongside Social Norms
